President Obama announced that he was beefing up funding for the Small Business Administration, which is expected to increase job creation. But the biggest opponent is the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Mike Papantonio appears on Fox Business's Happy Hour to talk about why the Chamber must be stopped in order to create sustainable jobs in America.

Lately conservative leadership has surfaced with a new idea about how they can ease the suffering that change causes for their fearful conservative flock. I call it rewrite therapy. It is where they create an alternative reality by rewriting or erasing historical events that cause them anxiety. It began with the Conservative Bible Project. That is a project aimed at removing from the Bible anything that conservatives regard as liberal bias. For example, the oddballs working on this project tell us that liberals changed the ancient wording of the Bible in such a way that “free market thinking was distorted” with wording that promotes concepts of socialism. They want to see words like “laborer” and “fellow worker” and “comrade” yanked from the Bible. That is change they can believe in.

Mike Papantonio speaks to Nobel Prize winning economist Joseph Stiglitz

Its been almost two years since the economy began its downward spiral, and to this day the very folks on Wall Street who caused this mess are still sitting in powerful positions at the top of Americas financial services companies. If you examine the root causes of our current crisis, it becomes painfully obvious that the big bankers decided that they could take as much risk as possible without any regard to the well-being of their clients. As a result, banks lost money, their clients lost money, and taxpayers lost money when we had to bail them out. Mike Papantonio talks about how this started and what we need to do prevent another meltdown with Nobel Prize-winning economist Joseph Stiglitz, author of the new book Freefall: America, Free Markets, and the Sinking of the World Economy.

The president is talking with Republicans, but analysts say Obama's bigger problem is not Republicans, but moderate and conservative Democrats -- Blue Dogs -- in swing districts who are at risk in the mid-term elections in November. They are, as a group, running scared after the Massachusetts Senate race and are now more concerned about saving their own jobs than saving the President's 2010 agenda. But what they seem to be forgetting is that the president's agenda is what got him elected. Mike Papantonio appears on Fox Business's Happy Hour to talk about why the president needs to ignore the Blue Dogs and go full steam ahead with his agenda.

Fascism is a word that is overused when one political interest group is describing the bad conduct of another opposition political interest group. The politics of fascism is not difficult to understand. But I have heard plenty of college professors complicate the definition of fascism to the point that it would be tough to recognize if it knocked on your front door. At the core of fascism, you will always find unchecked power of big money industrialists controlling the messages of mass media. You could search the history books forever and you would never find an instance where those two essential elements of fascism were not present. Typically, it occurs when a powerful political leader gains the backing of monied industrialists and together with force they silence the watchdog voice of mass media. But last week, it was the U.S. Supreme Court that laid the groundwork for a powerful political leader to join well-financed industrialists and gain control over America's airways. The Court determined that a company like Exxon could use as much of their $40 billion annual profits as they chose to wage limitless corporate media campaigns against any political opponent who opposes Exxon's gluttonous view of the world.

With Haitians still overcoming the shock of the earthquake that destroyed their country, the question has arisen as to whether or not cruise ships (like those run by Royal Caribbean) should still be shipping tourists to the country. The GOP says that private companies will help the country more than our charitable donations, but as Mike Papantonio points out in this clip from Fox News' Cashin' In, private companies aren't going to be rebuilding roads, sewers, and hospitals - things that would actually help the country.

In last week's special election for the Massachusetts' Senate seat, labor unions did not provide their usual support for the Democratic candidates. But does this mean that unions are losing power or switching their party allegiance? According to Mike Papantonio, the answer to that is "no", and he explains why the unions are necessary for the Democratic Party and the American economy in this clip from Fox News' Cashin' In.

Obama made the comment during a recent ABC interview that he has "lost touch" with the American people. The only question that arises from this statement is "What people is he trying to connect with?" The tea partiers? The birthers? The death panel-ers? According to Mike Papantonio in his most recent appearance on Fox Business's Happy Hour, the only people Obama needs to worry about re-connecting with are his base, and he needs to be pushing full steam ahead with his agenda, ignoring the lunatic fringe that has taken over the GOP.

If you hadn't already heard, Air America Radio is ceasing operations as of this afternoon. Please take the time to read the message at AirAmerica.com.

We have been with Air America since the earliest days of the network, and it is very sad to see one of the only liberal outlets in this country have to close their doors. We believe very strongly in what Air America was working to accomplish, and their presence on the radio will be tremendously missed.

I'm sure you are all now wondering what will become of Ring of Fire. The short answer is "nothing." We will continue to run our weekly radio show. Ring of Fire is independently produced, and we were only syndicated through Air America. We will simply be syndicated through another company, but rest assured, you will not miss a single beat. We are still set to air as per usual.

If you were to ask someone in the Middle East why the US is fighting two wars over there, about half of the responses you'd hear would be that the US is trying to impose Christianity on the Muslim world. And while the government wants to say that this isn't the case, the contractors they're hiring to supply weapons to our troops tell a much different story. Joining Mike Papantonio to talk about the Christian zealots that are arming our soldiers is comedian Matt Filipowicz, the founder of Headzup.TV.

In case you haven't seen it yet, Alec Baldwin had a great post yesterday over at The Huffington Post, where he talks about how much he admires Ring of Fire's own Bobby Kennedy, Jr. Here's a brief snippet:

To hear Bobby Kennedy speak about issues that are important to him is to hear one of the most saliently powerful political minds in this country at work. No one, anywhere I have traveled in pursuit of understanding issues as significant environmental protection, is as effective as Bobby. His breadth of knowledge, passion and poise never cease to inform and inspire his audiences. I've seen Bobby give the keynote speech at the Banff event many times and I am always moved and motivated by his great mind and heart. I'm sorry I missed the Globes, but I'm glad I did not miss RFK Jr., a man who deserves an important place in the political life of this country not because of his family's name, but because he embodies the very best of what that name stands for.

Bobby Kennedy Jr. will debate the CEO of Massey coal, Don Blankenship, about the destructive effects of coal production and consumption, on Thursday, January 21st (tomorrow) at 6:15 pm, eastern, from the University of Charleston, West Virginia. The program will be carried online at www.wowktv.com, as well as by other local media. You can visit www.ucwv.edu for more information.

The full piece can be found here. And don't forget to watch Bobby debate Don Blankenship tonight! Links to the coverage can be found in Baldwin's piece.

A hyena will scavenge graves for food. It is an animal that shows no respect for the dead. Instead, it merely regards the misfortune of once-living carcasses as an opportunity. In East Nigeria they have a belief that there are people who are capable of turning themselves into hyenas at will. Rush Limbaugh gave credence to that Nigerian superstition last week when he used the tragedy of 100,000 Haitian men, women, and children to promote himself as America’s number one radio thug without a conscience. President Obama struck a deal with labor unions to exempt their insurance policies from being taxed under his healthcare plan. This has the GOP crying "favoritism", but as Mike Papantonio points out, this is really just Obama returning to his progressive roots.
